Tour Plan
Transfer to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – Guided Rhino Tracking
Your safari begins with an early morning departure from Kampala or Entebbe, heading north on a 3–4 hour drive toward Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. The journey introduces you to Uganda’s countryside—lush farmland, roadside markets, and small villages.
Upon arrival, you’ll enjoy lunch before heading out for a guided rhino tracking experience on foot. Led by experienced rangers, this activity brings you surprisingly close to southern white rhinos in their natural environment. The walk typically lasts 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on where the rhinos are located, and includes detailed explanations about conservation efforts, rhino behavior, and the sanctuary’s role in reintroducing rhinos to Uganda’s national parks.
The sanctuary is also home to antelope species and rich birdlife, adding depth to the experience.
After the activity, check in at your lodge, relax and enjoy dinner in a peaceful natural setting.
Transfer to Kitgum via Gulu – Cultural & Scenic Drive
After breakfast, begin your journey north toward Kitgum, a drive of approximately 5–6 hours.
You’ll stop in Gulu for lunch and a short walk around town. This is a great opportunity to experience northern Uganda’s vibrant culture, interact with locals, and observe daily life in one of the region’s largest towns.
As you continue, the landscape becomes more open and remote, with traditional homesteads and expansive plains dominating the scenery. This gradual transition sets the tone for your entry into Uganda’s wild north.
Arrive in Kitgum in the late afternoon and unwind at your lodge.
Transfer to Kidepo Valley National Park – Into Remote Wilderness
After an early breakfast, continue your journey to Kidepo Valley National Park, about 3–4 hours away.
The drive through the Karamoja region is one of the most scenic in Uganda, featuring rugged hills, dry riverbeds, and traditional pastoral communities. Optional stops, such as Nyero Rock Paintings, can add historical context to your journey.
Arrive at the park in time for lunch. After check-in, take time to relax and enjoy panoramic views of the vast savannah. Wildlife sightings often begin right from the lodge area, with animals grazing in the distance.
In the late afternoon, you may opt for a short introductory game drive or simply enjoy the sunset over the plains.
Full-Day Game Drives & Karamojong Cultural Experience
Today offers a full immersion into the wild beauty of Kidepo Valley National Park.
Start early with a sunrise game drive in Narus Valley, the park’s main wildlife area. Early morning is ideal for spotting predators such as lions and hyenas, while elephants, buffaloes, and giraffes gather near water sources. The open plains allow for excellent visibility and photography.
Return to the lodge for breakfast and relaxation before heading out again in the afternoon. The second game drive may explore the Kidepo Valley itself, where the environment is drier and more rugged—perfect for spotting ostriches and, occasionally, cheetahs.
In the late afternoon, visit a Karamojong community. This cultural encounter introduces you to traditional pastoral lifestyles, including cattle keeping, local dances, and storytelling. It’s a meaningful way to connect with the people who call this region home.
Transfer to Mount Elgon Region – Visit Sipi Falls
After breakfast, begin your journey south toward eastern Uganda. This is a longer drive of about 7–8 hours, but it’s filled with scenic contrasts—from dry savannah to lush green highlands.
Arrive in the Sipi Falls area in the afternoon and embark on a guided walk to the waterfalls. The hike is moderate and takes you through local farms and coffee plantations, offering stunning views of the three waterfalls and surrounding valleys.
You’ll also learn about local Arabica coffee production, a key livelihood in the region.
Hiking on Mount Elgon – Scenic Mountain Experience
After breakfast, set out for a guided hiking experience on Mount Elgon.
The trail takes you through diverse ecosystems, starting with forested slopes and gradually opening into bamboo zones and moorlands. The hike duration is flexible (typically 4–6 hours depending on pace and route), making it accessible yet rewarding.
Along the way, your guide will point out unique plant species, birdlife, and scenic viewpoints overlooking eastern Uganda and into Kenya.
Return to the lodge in the afternoon for rest and relaxation.
Transfer to Jinja – Source of the Nile Experience
After breakfast, drive to Jinja, a journey of approximately 4–5 hours.
In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise to the Source of the Nile, where Lake Victoria feeds the Nile River. This calm and scenic experience offers opportunities to spot birds such as kingfishers, cormorants, and African fish eagles.
It’s a relaxing transition from the hiking and wildlife portions of the safari.
White-Water Rafting on the Nile – Full Adventure Day
Today is dedicated to white-water rafting, one of the most exciting activities in East Africa.
After a safety briefing, you’ll head out with professional guides to tackle a series of rapids ranging from moderate to challenging. The activity typically lasts half or full day, depending on your preference.
Between the rapids, there are calm sections where you can swim or simply enjoy the scenery. Safety kayakers and guides ensure a secure and enjoyable experience throughout.
Return to your lodge in the afternoon for relaxation.
Return to Kampala or Entebbe – End of Safari
After breakfast, begin your return journey to Kampala or Entebbe, approximately 2–3 hours.
You’ll have a stop for lunch along the way before arriving in the afternoon. Your guide will drop you off at your hotel or Entebbe International Airport for your onward flight.
