Tour Plan
Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve – Into Kenya’s Wild North
Your safari begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, followed by a short briefing from your professional driver-guide. You’ll then embark on a scenic drive north toward Samburu National Reserve, a journey of approximately 5–6 hours through changing landscapes—from fertile highlands to the semi-arid plains of northern Kenya.
As you approach Samburu, the environment becomes more rugged and dramatic, with rocky outcrops, acacia woodlands, and the winding Ewaso Nyiro River sustaining life in this dry region. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge, enjoy lunch and take some time to relax.
In the late afternoon, head out for your first game drive. Samburu is known for its unique wildlife species often referred to as the “Samburu Special Five,” including Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, and gerenuk. You may also encounter elephants, lions, and leopards in this less-crowded and truly wild landscape.
Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Full-Day Game Viewing in Samburu – Rare Species & Raw Wilderness
Today is dedicated to a full-day wildlife safari in Samburu National Reserve. After an early breakfast, depart with packed lunch for extended game drives across the reserve.
The early morning hours offer excellent chances to spot predators such as lions and leopards before they retreat from the heat of the day. As the sun rises, herds of elephants gather along the riverbanks, while antelope species graze across the open plains.
Throughout the day, your guide will take you to different areas of the reserve, increasing your chances of spotting rare species and enjoying varied scenery. Samburu is also a fantastic birdwatching destination, with over 350 recorded bird species including kingfishers, hornbills, and vultures.
Enjoy your picnic lunch in the wild, surrounded by the sounds of nature, before continuing your exploration in the afternoon.
Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and relaxation.
Samburu to Ol Pejeta Conservancy – Conservation & Wildlife Encounters
After breakfast, begin your journey south to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, located at the foothills of Mount Kenya. The drive takes approximately 3–4 hours and offers scenic views of central Kenya’s farmlands and rolling hills.
Arrive in time for lunch and check-in at your camp before heading out for an afternoon game drive. Ol Pejeta is one of Kenya’s leading conservation areas and is home to the last remaining northern white rhinos, making it a truly special destination.
You’ll visit the Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the only place in Kenya where you can see rescued chimpanzees in a protected environment. This adds a unique primate experience to your wildlife safari, complementing classic game viewing.
Later, explore the conservancy in search of rhinos, lions, elephants, and other wildlife before returning to your camp for dinner.
Ol Pejeta to Lake Nakuru National Park – Rift Valley Wildlife Safari
After breakfast, depart for Lake Nakuru National Park, a journey of approximately 4–5 hours through Kenya’s central highlands and into the Great Rift Valley.
Arrive in time for lunch and some relaxation before heading out for an afternoon game drive. Lake Nakuru is famous for its birdlife, especially flamingos (seasonal), and is one of the best places to see both black and white rhinos.
As you explore the park, you may also encounter Rothschild’s giraffes, lions, buffaloes, waterbucks, and elusive leopards hiding in the acacia trees. The scenic lake and surrounding escarpments create a beautiful setting for wildlife viewing and photography.
Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Lake Nakuru to Masai Mara – Journey to Kenya’s Premier Safari Destination
After breakfast, begin your journey to the Masai Mara National Reserve, driving through the Great Rift Valley and the Maasai town of Narok. The journey takes approximately 5–6 hours.
Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch, followed by a short rest before heading out for your first game drive in the Masai Mara.
The reserve is world-renowned for its incredible wildlife density and offers some of the best game drives in Africa. Expect to see elephants, giraffes, zebras, and possibly lions or cheetahs as you explore the vast savannah.
As the sun sets over the plains, return to your lodge for dinner and an evening around the campfire.
Full-Day Game Drives in Masai Mara – Big Five Experience
Today is a full day dedicated to exploring the Masai Mara. After an early breakfast, depart with packed lunch for an extended game drive across the reserve.
Your guide will take you through different habitats, including open plains and riverine forests, in search of the Big Five and other wildlife. The Masai Mara is particularly known for its large lion prides, cheetahs, and frequent sightings of leopards.
Visit the Mara River, home to hippos and crocodiles, and a key crossing point during the Great Wildebeest Migration (seasonal). Witnessing this event is one of the most dramatic wildlife spectacles in the world.
Enjoy your picnic lunch in the bush before continuing your afternoon game drive.
Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and relaxation.
Optional Balloon Safari & Maasai Cultural Experience
Begin your day with an optional hot air balloon safari over the Masai Mara at sunrise. Floating silently above the plains offers breathtaking views of wildlife and landscapes, followed by a champagne bush breakfast.
If you prefer a more relaxed morning, enjoy breakfast at the lodge before heading out for another game drive to explore new areas or search for wildlife you may have missed.
Later in the day, you may visit a Maasai village for a cultural experience, learning about traditional customs, dances, and daily life. This adds a meaningful cultural dimension to your safari.
Spend your final evening in the Mara enjoying dinner and reflecting on your incredible journey.
Masai Mara to Nairobi – End of Safari
After breakfast, check out and begin your return journey to Nairobi, a drive of approximately 5–6 hours through the scenic Great Rift Valley.
Along the way, enjoy views of landmarks such as Mount Longonot and Lake Naivasha, and keep an eye out for wildlife grazing near the roadside.
Arrive in Nairobi in the early afternoon, where you may have time for last-minute shopping or lunch before being transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your departure.
