Tour Plan
Scenic Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Your adventure begins early in the morning with a pick-up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe by your professional driver-guide. After a short safari briefing, you’ll set off on a scenic journey to southwestern Uganda—a drive that typically takes about 8 to 10 hours, depending on road conditions and stops along the way.
The journey itself is part of the experience. You’ll travel through changing landscapes—from bustling towns to open countryside—before reaching the lush greenery of western Uganda. A memorable stop is made at the Equator in Kayabwe, where you can take photos, stretch your legs, and browse locally made crafts and souvenirs.
Continuing onward, you’ll pass through the Ankole region, known for its long-horned cattle, expansive banana plantations, and tea estates. A relaxed lunch stop is usually made in Mbarara, giving you time to refresh before continuing the journey.
As you approach the Kigezi Highlands, the scenery becomes more dramatic—rolling hills, terraced farmland, and mist-covered valleys create a breathtaking backdrop. You’ll arrive at your lodge near Bwindi in the late afternoon or early evening. After check-in, enjoy a freshly prepared dinner and take in the tranquil forest surroundings as you prepare for the next day’s gorilla trekking adventure.
Gorilla Trekking Experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Today is the highlight of your safari—an unforgettable gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi’s ancient rainforest.
After an early breakfast, your guide will transfer you to the park headquarters for a detailed briefing by the Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. You’ll be assigned to a small group of up to 8 trekkers and guided into the forest in search of a habituated gorilla family.
The trek can take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours depending on the location of the gorillas. As you hike through thick vegetation, your ranger will interpret the forest ecosystem, pointing out bird species, plant life, and signs of other wildlife such as monkeys or forest elephants. The terrain can be steep and uneven at times, but the anticipation builds with every step.
When you finally encounter the gorillas, you’ll spend one extraordinary hour in their presence. Watching them feed, groom, play, and interact is both humbling and fascinating. The experience is deeply personal and often described as life-changing—a rare opportunity to connect with one of our closest relatives in the wild.
After your trek, return to the lodge for relaxation. In the afternoon, you may choose to visit the Batwa community, the original forest inhabitants who once lived in Bwindi. Through storytelling, music, and demonstrations, you’ll gain insight into their traditional way of life and cultural heritage.
Alternatively, you can unwind at the lodge, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and stunning forest views.
Return to Kampala or Entebbe
After a relaxed breakfast, you’ll begin your return journey to Kampala or Entebbe. The drive back takes approximately 8 to 10 hours, retracing your route through the scenic countryside.
Along the way, you’ll stop for lunch in Masaka and have opportunities to stretch, take photos, or pick up last-minute souvenirs. The journey offers one final chance to soak in Uganda’s beautiful landscapes and rural charm.
You’ll arrive in the evening and be dropped off at your hotel or at Entebbe International Airport for your onward flight, marking the end of your memorable 3-day gorilla trekking safari in Uganda.
