Designed for adventurous travelers, this journey blends exceptional Big Five game viewing, breathtaking landscapes and the personal achievement of trekking to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Tour Plan
Arusha to Serengeti – Entering Tanzania’s Iconic Wilderness
Your adventure begins in Arusha, where your professional safari guide will welcome you and provide a detailed briefing about the journey ahead. You will then depart for Serengeti National Park either by road (approximately 7–8 hours) or by a short domestic flight for a more time-efficient transfer.
The journey itself is part of the experience. As you travel through the Ngorongoro highlands, you’ll witness changing landscapes—from cultivated farmland and Maasai villages to wide-open plains dotted with wildlife. Keep your camera ready as giraffes, zebras, and antelope may already begin to appear even before you officially enter the park.
Upon arrival in the Serengeti, you’ll embark on your first game drive, exploring the famous Seronera region known for its year-round wildlife concentration. As the afternoon light softens, predators begin to stir, offering your first chance to spot lions resting in the grass or cheetahs scanning the plains.
Arrive at your lodge or tented camp in the evening, where you’ll enjoy a warm meal and settle in under the African night sky, with distant wildlife sounds adding to the atmosphere.
Full-Day Game Drives in Serengeti – Big Five and Migration Encounters
Today is dedicated entirely to exploring the vast ecosystems of the Serengeti on a full-day wildlife safari. You’ll set out early in the morning when the park is at its most active, giving you the best opportunity to observe predators before they retreat from the rising sun.
Your guide will take you through different habitats—open plains, riverine forests, and kopjes (rocky outcrops)—each offering unique wildlife encounters. The Serengeti is one of the best places in Africa to see the Big Five, and you may encounter lions on a hunt, elephants grazing peacefully, or elusive leopards resting in trees.
Depending on the time of year, you may witness part of the Great Wildebeest Migration, where thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles move across the plains in search of fresh grazing. This spectacle often attracts predators, creating dramatic wildlife interactions.
A picnic lunch will be enjoyed in the bush, allowing you to stay immersed in the experience without returning to camp. In the afternoon, continue your exploration, focusing on areas known for specific sightings, such as hippo pools or predator territories.
Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and relaxation, reflecting on a day filled with unforgettable wildlife encounters.
Serengeti to Kilimanjaro Region – From Savannah to Highlands
After breakfast, you’ll say goodbye to the Serengeti and begin your journey toward the Kilimanjaro region. You may opt for a scenic drive (approximately 4–5 hours) or a short flight for convenience.
As you leave the savannah behind, the landscape gradually changes to greener highlands and cultivated fields, offering a striking contrast to the open plains. You’ll arrive in Moshi, located at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro.
In the afternoon, you’ll meet your mountain guides for a comprehensive briefing. They will review your trekking route, equipment, altitude considerations, and safety procedures to ensure you are fully prepared for the climb ahead.
Enjoy a relaxed evening at your hotel, taking time to rest and prepare for the next phase of your adventure.
Machame Gate to Machame Camp – Rainforest Trekking Begins
After an early breakfast, transfer to Machame Gate where your Kilimanjaro trek officially begins. Following registration, you’ll enter the lush montane rainforest—a vibrant ecosystem filled with towering trees, ferns, and wildlife.
The trail is well-defined but steadily climbs through dense vegetation. Along the way, you may spot colobus monkeys swinging through the trees and hear a variety of bird calls echoing through the forest.
The hike takes approximately 5–7 hours, allowing you to gradually adjust to the altitude while enjoying the scenic surroundings. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at Machame Camp (3,000m), where your team will have prepared your tents and a warm meal.
As night falls, temperatures begin to drop, and the sounds of the forest create a peaceful and immersive atmosphere.
Machame Camp to Shira Camp – Moorland and Expansive Views
Today’s trek takes you out of the rainforest and into the moorland zone, where the landscape opens dramatically. The vegetation changes to giant heathers and alpine plants, and the views of Kilimanjaro become more prominent.
The trail includes a steady ascent and some steeper sections, but the pace is carefully managed to support acclimatization. The hike takes approximately 4–6 hours, with several rest stops along the way to enjoy the scenery and hydrate.
As you approach Shira Camp (3,850m), you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding plains and distant peaks. The air becomes cooler and thinner, marking your progression into higher altitudes.
Spend the evening relaxing, enjoying dinner, and watching the sunset over the mountain.
Acclimatization via Lava Tower to Barranco Camp – Climb High, Sleep Low
Day six is one of the most critical stages of your Mount Kilimanjaro trek, as it plays a major role in helping your body adjust to the altitude. After an early breakfast at Shira Camp, you’ll begin a steady ascent toward the iconic Lava Tower (4,600m), trekking through a dramatic semi-desert landscape shaped by ancient volcanic activity.
The terrain gradually becomes more rugged and sparse, with striking rock formations and expansive views of the mountain. Although the climb is not technical, the increasing altitude makes this section more physically demanding, requiring a slow and steady pace. Your guides will closely monitor your condition, encouraging regular breaks for hydration and acclimatization.
Upon reaching Lava Tower, you’ll stop for lunch and spend some time at this higher elevation, allowing your body to adapt to the thinner air. From here, you’ll begin a gradual descent to Barranco Camp (3,930m), following the principle of “climb high, sleep low,” which significantly improves your chances of a successful summit.
The descent offers incredible views of the towering Barranco Wall and the valleys below, with the landscape transitioning into a unique alpine environment dotted with giant senecio plants. Arrive at camp in the late afternoon, where you can relax, enjoy a warm meal, and take in the dramatic surroundings.
Barranco Wall to Karanga Camp – Scenic Ridge Trek
After breakfast, you’ll tackle one of the most exciting and memorable sections of the Machame Route—the climb up the famous Barranco Wall. Although it appears steep and intimidating at first glance, the ascent is manageable with guidance from your experienced mountain crew. The climb involves some light scrambling, but no technical climbing skills are required.
As you ascend, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of glaciers, cliffs, and valleys, making this one of the most scenic parts of the trek. Reaching the top of the wall is a rewarding moment, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and a real sense of achievement.
From here, the trail continues along a gently undulating ridge, with a mix of short ascents and descents as you make your way toward Karanga Camp (3,930m). This section allows your body to continue acclimatizing while still making steady progress toward the summit.
The trek to Karanga takes approximately 4 hours, and you’ll typically arrive by early afternoon. This gives you ample time to rest, hydrate, and enjoy the peaceful mountain environment. Your guides may also offer a short acclimatization walk later in the day to further prepare your body for higher elevations.
Karanga to Barafu Camp – Final Ascent Preparation
Today’s trek is shorter but incredibly important as you make your way to Barafu Camp (4,673m), your base for the summit attempt. After breakfast, you’ll begin a steady climb through increasingly barren terrain, with the landscape becoming more rocky and exposed.
The altitude is now noticeable, and you’ll move at a slow, deliberate pace to conserve energy. Despite the shorter distance, this section requires focus and determination as you approach the high-altitude zone of the mountain.
Arrive at Barafu Camp around midday, where you’ll have lunch and some time to rest. The camp is set on a rocky ridge, offering spectacular views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. In the afternoon, your guides will conduct a detailed briefing, explaining the summit route, safety procedures, and what to expect during the night climb.
You’ll spend the remainder of the day preparing your gear—layering clothing, organizing headlamps, and ensuring everything is ready for the summit push. An early dinner is served, followed by a few hours of rest, as your summit attempt will begin shortly after midnight.
Summit Day – Uhuru Peak & Descent to Mweka Camp
This is the most challenging and rewarding day of your Kilimanjaro adventure. Your summit attempt begins around midnight, as you set off under a sky filled with stars, guided by headlamps and the steady encouragement of your mountain team.
The climb to Stella Point (5,756m) is steep and physically demanding, with cold temperatures and thin air making progress slow but steady. Upon reaching Stella Point at sunrise, you’ll witness an incredible view as the first light illuminates the glaciers and surrounding peaks.
From here, it’s a final push along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Standing at the summit is an emotional and unforgettable experience—one that rewards all your effort and determination.
After celebrating, taking photos, and soaking in the moment, you’ll begin your descent back to Barafu Camp for a short rest and refreshments. The journey then continues down to Mweka Camp (3,100m), passing through changing landscapes as you leave the alpine zone behind.
This is a long and demanding day, typically lasting 12–14 hours, but the sense of achievement makes it one of the most memorable days of the entire journey.
Final Descent & Departure
After a well-deserved rest and breakfast, you’ll begin your final descent through the lush rainforest zone toward Mweka Gate. The trail is much easier and allows you to fully appreciate the beauty of the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro.
As you descend, the air becomes warmer and richer in oxygen, and the vegetation grows denser. This final walk is a time for reflection—an opportunity to look back on the incredible journey you’ve completed.
Upon reaching Mweka Gate, you’ll receive your official summit certificate, marking your successful climb of Mount Kilimanjaro. It’s a proud and memorable moment shared with your guides and fellow trekkers.
You’ll then transfer back to Moshi or Arusha, where you can enjoy a hot shower, a comfortable bed, and some well-earned relaxation—or prepare for your onward journey.
