Home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, Bwindi offers an unmatched wildlife experience set within a dense, ancient rainforest. Tour Plan
Transfer from Kigali to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Your safari begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Kigali or Kigali International Airport. After a short briefing, you’ll set off on a scenic drive toward southwestern Uganda.
The journey takes approximately 4 to 5 hours, making this one of the fastest routes to reach Bwindi. You will cross into Uganda via either the Cyanika border (near Kisoro) or Katuna border (near Kabale), depending on your allocated gorilla trekking sector.
As you travel, enjoy stunning views of Rwanda’s terraced hills before entering the lush landscapes of Uganda’s Kigezi Highlands—often referred to as the “Switzerland of Africa.” The scenery gradually transforms into misty valleys and forested hills, offering a beautiful introduction to the region.
Arrive at your lodge around midday or early afternoon, check in, and enjoy a freshly prepared lunch.
Afternoon (Optional Experience):
You may choose to take part in a Batwa cultural visit, where you’ll learn about the traditions of one of the region’s oldest indigenous communities, or enjoy a short guided nature walk along the forest edge.
Evening:
Relax at your lodge, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the highlight of your safari the following day.
Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Today is the highlight of your safari—gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Early Morning:
After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters by around 7:00 AM for a detailed briefing conducted by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. You will be assigned to a specific gorilla family in a small group of up to 8 trekkers, ensuring a more personalized experience.
The Trekking Experience:
Accompanied by experienced guides and trackers, you will enter the dense rainforest in search of your assigned gorilla group. The trek can take anywhere between 2 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas and the terrain.
As you hike through the forest, your guide will interpret the environment—pointing out unique plant species, birds, and other wildlife along the way. The forest itself is rich in biodiversity, making the journey just as rewarding as the destination.
Once the gorillas are located, you will spend one magical hour in their presence, observing them at close range. Watch as they feed, groom, rest, and interact within their family groups. Seeing a silverback lead the group or young gorillas play is a deeply moving experience that stays with you long after your safari ends.
After the Trek:
Return to the park headquarters where you’ll receive your gorilla trekking certificate. Transfer back to your lodge for lunch and a well-deserved rest.
Afternoon & Evening:
Spend the afternoon relaxing at the lodge, enjoying the views, or reflecting on your experience. Dinner is served in the evening.
