Tour Plan
Arrival in Tanzania – Gateway to Kilimanjaro
Your journey begins upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where you are warmly welcomed by your driver-guide and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. This vibrant town sits at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro and serves as the starting point for your climb.
After check-in, you’ll meet your head trekking guide for a detailed pre-climb briefing. This session covers your route, daily hiking expectations, altitude awareness, safety procedures, and an in-depth gear check. If anything is missing, arrangements can be made locally to ensure you are fully equipped.
Spend the rest of the day relaxing, hydrating, and preparing mentally for the adventure ahead.
Londorossi Gate to Big Tree Camp – Enter the Rainforest
After breakfast, you’ll drive approximately 3–4 hours to Londorossi Gate, passing through rural villages, coffee farms, and scenic countryside. After registration formalities, continue to the Lemosho trailhead where your trek begins.
The first day’s hike is a gentle and enjoyable walk through dense rainforest. The trail is shaded and alive with sounds of birds and wildlife. Keep an eye out for colobus monkeys swinging through the canopy and other forest species hidden among the trees.
The pace is slow and comfortable, allowing your body to begin adjusting to altitude. After 3–4 hours of hiking, you’ll arrive at Big Tree Camp, where your crew will already have set up camp.
Enjoy a hot meal, settle into your tent, and rest under the peaceful forest canopy.
Big Tree Camp to Shira 1 Camp – Transition to Moorland
Today’s trek gradually takes you out of the rainforest and into the moorland zone. The landscape changes noticeably, with fewer trees and more open terrain featuring giant heathers and volcanic rocks.
The hike takes approximately 5–6 hours, with steady altitude gain. As you climb higher, the air becomes cooler and clearer, and panoramic views begin to open across the Shira Plateau.
Your guide will ensure regular breaks for hydration and acclimatization. Arrive at Shira 1 Camp in the afternoon, where you can enjoy stunning views and a sense of accomplishment after your first full day of elevation gain.
Shira Plateau Crossing – Expansive High-Altitude Landscapes
This is one of the most scenic days on the mountain as you traverse the expansive Shira Plateau. The terrain is relatively gentle but covers a longer distance of approximately 5–7 hours.
The landscape feels otherworldly, with wide-open plains, volcanic ridges, and distant views of Kibo Peak. You may spot high-altitude wildlife such as elands or birds adapted to this environment.
Depending on your acclimatization plan, you will camp at Shira 2 Camp or continue to Moir Hut, a quieter and more remote location. Optional short hikes around the area help improve altitude adaptation.
Lava Tower to Barranco Camp – Acclimatization Strategy
Today is a crucial acclimatization day designed to prepare your body for higher elevations.
You will ascend gradually to Lava Tower (approximately 4,600m), a dramatic volcanic formation. This climb can feel challenging due to the altitude, but the slow pace allows your body to adapt effectively.
After lunch at Lava Tower, descend into the beautiful Barranco Valley. The change in altitude provides relief while still aiding acclimatization. The valley is lush with unique plants such as giant groundsels, creating one of the most photogenic areas on the mountain.
Arrive at Barranco Camp, where you’ll enjoy incredible sunset views and a well-earned rest.
Barranco Wall to Karanga Camp – Adventure & Ridge Views
After breakfast, tackle the iconic Barranco Wall. While steep, it is a manageable scramble and one of the most exciting sections of the climb.
At the top, you’re rewarded with breathtaking views across the valley. The trail then follows a series of ridges and valleys, offering continuous scenic beauty.
After approximately 4–5 hours of trekking, arrive at Karanga Camp. This shorter day allows for additional rest and acclimatization, which is essential for summit success.
Spend the afternoon hydrating, relaxing, and preparing for the next stage.
Karanga to Barafu Camp – Final Preparation for Summit
Today’s hike takes approximately 3–4 hours as you ascend to Barafu Camp, your base for the summit attempt.
The terrain becomes more rugged and barren, with a stark alpine desert environment. Views of Mawenzi Peak and the surrounding landscape are dramatic and inspiring.
Upon arrival, you’ll have lunch and spend the afternoon resting. Your guide will provide a detailed summit briefing, including pacing, safety, and what to expect during the night climb.
Early dinner and sleep are essential, as your summit push begins before midnight.
Summit Day – Uhuru Peak & Descent
This is the most challenging and rewarding day of your journey.
You’ll begin your ascent in the early hours, trekking slowly in the dark using headlamps. The climb is physically demanding, but your guides will support and motivate you every step of the way.
Reach Stella Point at sunrise, then continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Standing at the summit is an unforgettable achievement, with panoramic views above the clouds.
After celebrating, begin your descent back to Barafu Camp for rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp. This long day (12–14 hours) requires determination but delivers immense satisfaction.
Final Descent – Return to Moshi
After breakfast, descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. The trail is easier and allows time to reflect on your incredible achievement.
At the gate, receive your summit certificate and celebrate with your trekking team before transferring back to Moshi or Arusha for rest.
Flight to Kigali & Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After your Kilimanjaro climb, today marks a smooth transition into your wildlife safari experience. You’ll transfer to the airport for your flight to Kigali, enjoying scenic aerial views of East Africa along the way.
Upon arrival, your safari guide will meet you and begin the drive toward southwestern Uganda. The journey, approximately 4–5 hours, takes you through Rwanda’s rolling hills, terraced farms, and vibrant rural communities. After crossing the border into Uganda, the landscape becomes more mountainous as you approach the Kigezi Highlands.
Arrive in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the evening and check in at your lodge, surrounded by dense rainforest. Spend the evening relaxing, enjoying a warm meal, and preparing for the next day’s gorilla trekking adventure.
Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi – A Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. You’ll learn about gorilla behavior, safety guidelines, and what to expect during your trek.
You’ll then set off into the forest with experienced trackers. The trek can take between 1 to 6 hours depending on the gorillas’ location, moving through thick vegetation, steep trails, and beautiful rainforest scenery. Along the way, your guide will point out birdlife, plant species, and other primates that inhabit the forest.
Once you find the gorillas, you’ll spend one unforgettable hour observing them in their natural habitat. Watch as they feed, groom, and interact as a family—an intimate and deeply moving wildlife experience.
After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and a well-earned rest. You may choose to relax or simply take in the peaceful forest surroundings.
Scenic Return to Kigali – Culture & Reflection
After breakfast, begin your return journey to Kigali, traveling through the same scenic landscapes of southwestern Uganda and northern Rwanda.
The drive offers beautiful views of rolling hills, farmland, and local villages, with opportunities to stop for photos or short breaks along the way. You may also visit local markets or opt for a cultural stop such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial for deeper insight into Rwanda’s history.
Arrive in Kigali in the afternoon, where you can relax at your hotel or enjoy a quiet evening reflecting on your journey.
Departure – End of Safari
After breakfast, transfer to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.
Depending on your schedule, you may have time for a short city stop or last-minute shopping before heading to the airport.
